Numerous apartment complexes are open to low-income persons age 62 and older and to adults with disabilities. The rent is usually 30 percent of the resident’s gross income with adjustments made for medical expenses, health insurance premiums and prescriptions. Utilities often are included in the rent. Some facilities have hot lunch programs, social activities and vans for transportation.
