New Voucher Program Offers Hancock County Seniors Nutritious Meal Options
Jan. 27, 2010
A newly developed partnership between the CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions Meals & More Program and Hancock Regional Hospital allows seniors in Hancock County to have expanded meal options starting Feb. 3, 2010.
Through the implementation of a meal voucher program, CICOA and Hancock Regional Hospital, in cooperation with the Patricia Elmore Senior Center, will provide nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner alternatives for individuals age 60 and over. Vouchers are available on the first Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at the Patricia Elmore Senior Center, 280 Apple Street in Greenfield. The vouchers may be redeemed during normal cafeteria hours at Hancock Regional Hospital, where special menus have been designated for the program.
To be eligible for the program an individual must be age 60 and older or the spouse of a person age 60 or older. There are no income restrictions. Seniors must fill out enrollment forms (one-time only) at the Senior Center. For a suggested contribution of $3.00 each, seniors can receive up to eight vouchers per month, on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Vouchers expire on the last day of the month in which they are purchased.
The goal of the CICOA Meals & More Voucher program is to expand the availability of meal options for seniors in Hancock County. Voucher programs offer seniors nutritious meal alternatives, increased flexibility on meal times and increased opportunities for socialization and community involvement.
