Leo and Marie Kenley still live in the home they bought in 1958 in the Hawthorne neighborhood on the near Westside of Indianapolis. Leo spent his career as a mechanic for McLean Trucking before retiring in 1985. Marie worked as the executive director of the Hawthorne Community Center for 25 years, retiring a year later in 1986.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—When Betty Brown, 72, arrived for lunch today at the Indianapolis Senior Center, she thought she was simply having roast beef, mashed potatoes, a medley of vegetables and carrot cake. She did not know she also was going to be eating the symbolic 16 millionth meal provided by CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions.

CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions is offering a workshop for people living with chronic diseases or ongoing health concerns to help them achieve a healthier lifestyle. The six-week course, entitled “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” is a self-management program developed by Stanford University’s School of Medicine to help those with chronic diseases better manage day-to-day activities. Topics include learning how to make daily tasks easier, reducing stress and anxiety, communicating with healthcare professionals, and taking control of your condition.

CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions presented its 2010 Impact Award to the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust in recognition of their philanthropic support of the mission of CICOA. Outgoing CICOA Board Chair Jim Bixler, vice president of ethics and compliance at WellPoint, Inc., presented the award on June 22 to Dr. Michael Twyman, director of the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust grants program in Indiana, during a public meeting of the CICOA operating and foundation boards.

A meal voucher program in Hancock County designed to provide nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner alternatives for seniors age 60 and over now offers extended hours for purchasing vouchers. The shift came in response to increased demand for services.
