Nutrition Services

Introduction

The Nutrition Program offered by CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions started in 1973 using funds made available through the Older Americans Act. Since its inception, the Nutrition Program at CICOA has grown significantly in both the number of meals and the number of clients served. During Fiscal Year 2008 (July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008), CICOA expects to serve as many as 415,000 meals to over 3,000 seniors and persons with disabilities through its Neighborhood Meal Site and Home Delivered Meal Programs in Marion and the seven surrounding counties.

Eligibility

To attend any of the Neighborhood Meal Sites you must be:

1. At least 60 years of age;
2. The spouse of someone at least 60 years of age; or
3. Under the age of 60 with a disability and residing in housing facilities occupied primarily by older individuals at which congregate nutrition services are provided.

To receive home delivered meals you must be:

1. At least 60 years of age;
2. The spouse of someone at least 60 years of age; or
3. Under the age of 60 with a disability and receiving services through any of the following funded programs: CHOICE, SSBG, Title III-E or Medicaid Waiver.

Seniors receiving congregate and home delivered meal services through the Title III program are provided the opportunity to donate toward the cost of their meal; however, contributions are confidential and no individual will be turned away due to an inability to pay. The suggested donation amount is $2.00 per meal. The program is available to any senior or person with disability meeting the above listed guidelines, regardless of income.
